- As I continue to get experience and information with Leapster, I will update the review and table.
- I like the Leapster L Max for children age 3 to 7 who want to occasionally play an arcade controller type game. I purchased an L-max from an E-bay seller January 2006.
- All games should work with the Leapster and L-max in device screen mode.
- Feature benefit of the L-max compared with the Leapster is the TV available for L-max. With a TV the audience can see, coach and cheer for the player. Leapster and L-max cartridges interchange. The cartridge may have different games to choose depending on mode (screen or TV). The Leapster screen is larger than the L-max screen on my device.
- Controls: My 3-year old daughter has not had a problem using the stylus. Some children have difficulty. Some people say the stylus button is bothersome to point at device screen and click button for some 鈥渂uilt in games鈥? Some people describe it as click down motion.
- Graphics: Some people say the TV picture is blurry. I think the graphics are OK for young users.
- Users report that batteries die quickly in both Leapster and L-max. Batteries die particularly fast for L-max in TV mode. The rechargeable batteries with a base is recommended. I use the wall adapter (sold separately) for home use. I use rechargeable batteries for long car trips.
- Device: Some users have difficulty with the cover. I open and close the cover on the L-max for my daughter.
Table
I compiled a table of research. TV compatible notation was made based on reviews on the web by various users. Some of the games listed on my table have been discontinued. (I am having trouble pasting a table.)
