Finally XBOX 360s are on the shelves. We have been waiting since November to get our hands on the hottest console out there. But should we get an XBOX 360 or should we wait for the PS3? At the E3 conference the PS3's launch price was announced. If you thought the XBOX 360 was over priced, I can't wait to hear your reaction when you hear the price of the PS3. $500 for the basic PS3, and $600 for the premium PS3. ouch. Both consoles play the same games, the only thing is the premium PS3 will have a 60 GB harddrive, crome PlayStation 3 logo, and all the HD cables. Just like the Premium 360 compared to the Core 360. Think of it this way, you can buy 2 XBOX 360 Core systems for the Price of 1 PS3 premium. On the PS3 launch date you will probally be spending close to $850 , for everyone will want the Premium PS3(as they did with the XBOX 360)$600, a second controler$50, 2 games $120-$150(depending on how much the games end up costing, but rumor speculates they should cost $75 each), a 2 year warrant(highly reconmended on any console purchase over $300)$50, maybe some more accessories, plus tax. Thats $820-$850 about without tax. 8% tax is about $65-$67. Thats $885-$917. ouch. And every new game you get is an additional $60-$75. Too expensive for me.
Playstation will no longer be just for platform and RPG gamers. The XBOX 360 is comming out with lots of RPG games, and platform games specifically to target the Playstation crowd. The excuse, well XBOX doesn't have any good RPGs is a bad excuse from now on because there is pleanty of good RPGs comming out. PlayStation did have hundreds more games than the XBOX 1 did, BUT how many of those games were actually worth playing, or buying? Not many, most of those games were terrible games that no one has ever heard of or they are games that were a complete waste of money.
The PS3 will have a faster processor, and will have blue ray technology, but all the blue ray technology will enable is more room for software, which will lead to more room for finer details. BUT considering most game discs use around 50% of the total disc's space, this will just mean more empty disc space. Lets take for example Madden football, this game will be out on both consoles. But do you really think game designers will actually take more time just to make more detailed graphics for just 1 system and not the other? I don't think so. This wouldn't make sense. If software designers really wanted to put more detail into the games they would, nothing is stopping them from doing so, its just that they don't. Even if they did take more time to add in more detailed graphics, this would only consume more time. Thus prolonging the release of games, and due to the more time consumption, this would mean we would have to pay more for games. Both of course we don't want. PS2 had horrible online connection. XBOX 1 dominated the online gameplay with XBOX Live. If PS3 is to compete with the XBOX 360 they will need to completely redesign their online gameplay.
Most Playstation games are becoming XBOX 360 capable. Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, Dynasty Warriors, Ridge Racer, Dead or Alive, Rumble Roses just to name a few titles that are now available for the XBOX 360. Plus Sega will be designing more games for the XBOX 360, it currently has a handfull, such as Condemned, Full Auto, soon to be Sonic the Hedgehog, Chromehounds, and with more to come. Atari even has some games out for the XBOX 360. Microsoft expects that there should be 140 games out before Christmas 2006.
Past console release history proves that the first console to reach the market usually dominates that console genra. Nintendo dominated 3DO, Sega Genesis dominated Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 dominated PS1, PS2 dominated XBOX 1. And since history repeats itself I would have to side with XBOX 360 as the console to get, for it will be the more popular of the two gaming systems.
The XBOX 360 Bug problem, don't let this reason sway you from buying a XBOX 360. These problems are completely normal for new consoles. The PS3 WILL HAVE SOME BUG AT LAUNCH IN NOVEMBER. All consoles have had bugs. But most of the problems are gone, I bought an XBOX 360 on launch date. My XBOX 360 has never had any problems. The only problem I've experienced with my XBOX 360 is that it is frustrating when your wireless control runs out of batteries in the middle of a close online match. But thankfully we have the play'n'charge pack, where if your controler runs out of juice, you just plug a cord into it and it becomes a normal wire controler. Please be responsible and recharge your controlers after you have 14 hour straight gamming sessions. Though XBOX states that it can go 25 hours of straight gamming without any need for charging, I've yet to endure 25 hours of straight gaming yet.
I also support Microsoft because it is an American company. Though I do disagree with the fact that assembly positions are outsourced. I do understand why they do it. But there is also a hidden cost that many companys don't think about: Piracy. It is not difficult for a blueprint of software to get sold to a Black-Market company. These black market companies will then mass produce a certain product and sell it as their own. Each year the United States loses $250 Billion due to black market sales. One simple way to eliminate this is to eliminate outsourcing entirely, but most entrepreneurs and companies don't see past this and decided that they can cut a corner and save a few dollars. Random Fact: 35% installed software worldwide was counterfeit. 60% of all seized goods by US customs were from China. $600 Billion was lost each year due to fake goods. WOW!!! I'm certainly thinking twice before I buy anything from Asia. I personally am a Nationalist, I take pride in being an American, and I take pride in buying products from companies that support other Americans. Basically we all need to support the same companies that provide a job and house for our families. OK well that was a bit off topic, but I just thought elaborating on that was necessary. By supporting the PS3 you are supporting a nondomestic company, and none of the profits execpt retail, are put back into the US's economy.
With Online gaming to be the future of Video Games, I currently would have to side with XBOX. Until Sony proves me otherwise, and I don't mean just become equal to Microsoft, but surpass the XBOX, I doubt that I will buy a PS3 for myself. The only reason I can think of someone buying a PS3 instead of a XBOX 360 is that they want faster game loading. Is an extra $200 really worth saving a second or 2 from a load? Not in my opinoin. If you Make $50 an hour($100,000 salery a year), you would have to load the game 14,400 times just to get your moneys worth. if it took 1 second extra to load. Personally if you did get your money's worth, I think you play video games WAY too much.
So in conclusion, I think that buying a XBOX 360 instead of a PS3 would be a wiser choice.
