PSP Screen Replacement

If any of you have experienced the painful sound of the PSP LCD screen "crack", you will soon learn that this is not covered under the normal sony warranty. To get the screen replaced, you have to look to other sources. of course ebay has many vendors selling replacement screens.

Of course by removing even 1 screw from your PSP, you will void any remaining warranty that you have.

Replacing the screen is a delicate task, however not as daunting as one may think.

There are many free guides available to help you open your psp and replace tne screen. Many with video and pictures. Many ebay vendors will include a screen replacement guide as part of your purchase.

If your screen still has a display, then you can simply swap out the screen. If it does not dispaly, you may have a more serious problem.

If you have sound but no picture at all, then chances are the backlight has gone out. When you search for a replacement screen, you can also browse replacement backlights. The backlight is a thin film that sits behind the screen. If you purchase a new screen, make sure you are aware that it most likely does not come with a backlight. Many ebay vendors sell the LCD screen and backlight separately.

If this is the case, you will need to keep your old backlight for reuse with the new screen. If you have bought a LCD screen only, and no frame, then you will have to get the backlight from your other broken screen assembly. The backlight is behind the LCD screen (glass) and looks like a thin film of plastic with a small cable attached.

Look on google or the internet for (free) PSP replacement guides! familiarize yourself first with the procedure befiore you attempt this.
This quick guide is simply for reading. and Not a step by step guide.

1) read a guide! open psp (let the psp and the new replacement parts sit at room temperature for a few hours)
2) read a guide! - then with an exacto knife, gently pry up the corner of the screen assembly, and then the cable fasteners with an exacto knife. Do not use excessive force, or you can break the cable clips!
3) reade a guide! - remove the LCD screen assembly (remember it has 2 cables attached) by gently pulling the cable
3) reade a guide!- remove the metal frame from the plastic LCD frame, then remoive the broken glass from the plastic frame
4) get the point...- insert the new LCD glass into the frame the exact same way the old one was positioned (do not press on the LCD glass) it is very fragile and can crack very easily!
5) reattach the cables, and gently press on the cable clips.
6) close the psp and put all the screws back in.
